    While I understand your point regarding the current situation in the area of Palestine, I think it's only fair to mention that the group in control of Gaza, namely Hamas, has been the number one reason preventing girls and other underprivileged groups, such as LGBTQ Palestinians from getting access to education. While you didn't say anything about Israel, the mention of genocide right after you mentioned Palestine made it sound like you blame a nation that is only defending itself against constant threat and terrorism from a Jihadist terrorist group for an ongoing educational crisis that has nothing to do with it. This is a prime example of anti-semitism, which is the oldest form of hate that plagues our society.

      It's not anti-semitic to speak out against the oppressive, genocidal regime being carried out by Israel now and for the past several decades. In the same way you view Israel's actions as the right of a country to defend itself, it is within the rights of Palestinians to do the same. Israel has destroyed several Palestinian educational institutions recently, millions are displaced, children are not learning they are trying to survive, and anyone with an interest in education should be able to speak openly about the injustice of it.

    • @just_BASED

      @@Lilah1848Israel left Gaza in 2005. The fact that the terrorist organization, Hamas, hasn't established a functioning government, and has instead focused all of their energy and money they get from unassuming westerners into terrorism, and making their leader terrorists billionaires (meanwhile executing people for like the same-sex, and denying LGBTQ people, women and girls the right to education and voice in their community) is NOT Israel's problem. The Palestinians have the right to rape, execute, butcher, and abduct teenagers at a music festival, and elderly people in their homes? Then you claim that you are on the right side of history? What a joke! As awful as displacement and destroying educational institutions as it is you forgot to acknowledge a very minute but important detail: who is hiding in these institutions? Everyone with half a brain knows that what Hamas is doing, namely hiding amongst civilians to rack up the death rate of civilians is in a violation of international law. But then again who cares about international law when the UN appointed an Iranian ambassador (the country that kills countless of women for defying islamic law, butchers people for being gay, and supports global scale terrorism) as a "Human Rights" chair. No human rights here, just yet another smoke chamber to mask the true intentions of those who exploit the guise of governance and diplomacy to perpetuate violence and oppression. This conflict is not about land. It's sad to see how much much global discourse has devolved in the past couple of months, and the sheer cognitive dissonance that seems to have impacted so many people. As another Ph.D student with an interest in education all I can tell you is that injustice comes in many shapes and forms, and your ideology seems to stand firmly for injustice. BTW if you want to talk about destruction, how about the number of NICUs that Hamas tried to bomb? These are your "freedom fighters". Terrorists in civilian clothes, killing, raping and butchering innocents, meanwhile treating their own people like human shields with no rights or self-determination. In the words of the Hamas terrorists: "The Day of Judgement will not come about until Moslems fight the Jews (killing the Jews), when the Jew will hide behind stones and trees. The stones and trees will say O Moslems, O Abdulla, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him. Only the Gharkad tree, (evidently a certain kind of tree) would not do that because it is one of the trees of the Jews." Peace! ✌☮

    Regardless of what you decide- DECLUTTER FIRST. I’m a part time student living in California as well for the past 4 years and decluttering before making the decision has helped me be able to live in micro (studio) apartments, airbnbs, whatever the case. A studio wouldn’t be a bad choice at all given you are traveling a lot. Just make sure you declutter first if you can/have time in your schedule.

    I'm 23, almost 24, and honestly, the most important thing I have ever learnt is that you need to follow yiur own heart and your own dreams. If that means that you have to stop caring about certain things or people, then that's a sacrifice you have to be willing to take. In the long term, giving time, energy and other resources to people or projects that do not fulfill you is going to make you miserable and you'll end up feeling like you have wasted your life away on things that did not matter at all. How do you avoid wasting your life on unnecessary and unfruitful things? Know yourself and know your values. Before you decide to do anything, to share anything about yourself, to make a decision - ask yourself, am I doing this because it aligns with my values and dreams or am I doing this on autopilot/based on other people's expectations/to please others?

    I am late on the comment train but I will say i moved after my first year in the PhD from a one bedroom to a spacious studio and I certainly felt the difference. It did, though, encourage me to study outside the apartment and to engage more with my cohort and just be out more which I think is a positive. If you know you're only going to be in America for one more year and then will have fellowship to do dissertative work in the UK I would say it is probably manageable. I would just really evaluate while you're at home how much stuff you have and what out of it all you're willing to part with. Also research storage solutions whilst you're preparing for a potential move so you know all your stuff fits. All that to say a studio sounds right but think through the implications of it !

    • @veekativhu_

    Sounds like you really want the studio apartment, but ... I can't help but to think "roommate" especially when you mentioned the two bathrooms. Sounds like something that could work out. Unless your landlord wouldn't allow that or you prefer living alone. Just a thought. Otherwise sounds like you're gravitating more towards a studio apartment PLUS you've seen it so you know exactly what you're getting into.

    Hi Vee! I think studio room is a good option because it is going to allow you to make the most of the give space as opposed to not knowing how to use the empty room in your current room. When you move into a space where you are going to utilize every bit of the resource, it will make you more appreciative and grateful for it. Best of luck, Vee!!!

    You can put your stuff in storage for the 3 months you are in the UK, there are some that include packing, pick up and delivery to a new address! If the studio is big enough you can create little areas/sections so it doesn't feel like you are doing everything in one place! Start your new lease for when you get back or put yourself on the waiting list for a 1-bed 😊 you spend a lot of time traveling or studying elsewhere so I think in any case you'll be fine in a study. When you cook, put on the extraction fan, open a window down and get one of those odor absorbers, and a bed refresher spray type thing!

    1. Moving is a 1 week thing. So I'll suck for one week and youll be fine. 2. If youre tryijg to integrate, then put yourself in a position that will allow you to integrate. Wither you move to a smaller apartment so that you go outside. Or stayvin the 2 bed and host more friends. But since you dont want people in your home and space, then option 1 is better. There's also an argument about what will happen when the time comes to leave America. Moving to a smaller apartment will help you jump start on getting rid of stuff that'll make the transatlantic move difficult. I love soft life personally, so i understand why its hard to leave a 2 bed apartment. But, now its upto you and your relationship with money and savings. Soft life is also in putting money aside if that's something you're interested in.

    • @veekativhu_
      @veekativhu_ 4 дня назад

    I’d say go for the studio, since you seem to be leaning towards that option. The alternative could be renting/subletting out the second bedroom in your apartment to another graduate student. That way you will have someone to consistently socialize with, and you’d still get that personal space separation from the main kitchen/living room area, + you’d pay less!

    • @veekativhu_
      @veekativhu_ 4 дня назад

      I think I would much rather downsize bestie, having a room mate is great but I would really need to know the person because we would be in each other's space for 1 year and although that is not a long time it will feel like a long time if we end up not getting along :( xx

  • @emiliembayi9592

    Hey Vee, If you can’t move in July, sublet your apartment for the months you’re away or get a roommate to split the rent ($2.5K to ~$1.3K). Subletting is pretty common among students, especially in Germany, but check if this fits the US as well. This gives you more time to switch and perhaps find a student apartment that suits you better, without rushing or compromising. If moving to a studio, sell valuable items first to cover costs. Decide based on your capacity. Much love from Berlin Germany❤

    • @veekativhu_
      @veekativhu_ 4 дня назад

      Some of you have suggested subletting, I will find out if my accommodation would allow me to do this because I do not want to potentially getting into trouble lol and that is so true to allows some time plus I would be getting money from someone staying there. Thank you for the love and support <3

    I think the studio is a good option.. based on your use of your current apartment, the studio sounds like a better value, and could open up space for you in other ways such as financially, spending time outside etc. I know downsizing can be an emotional adjustment, but as you said you are drawn to this idea. Personally, I downsized to a smaller space so I could consistently attend dance classes and it's been totally worth it! If you did decide to move, it could be an opportunity to invest in something you want to experience more of and/or save :) Also: do you know the ventilation is like for cooking?

    • @veekativhu_
      @veekativhu_ 4 дня назад

      The studio does sound like a better value for sure! I really do see that. And I wouldn't struggle too much with downgrading because it is not a long term situation. I would only have 1 year left in Cali and to be honest studio apartments are super cute!! I am not mad at them at all lol

    Someone mentioned getting a roommate and I think it’s a great idea! Having studied abroad, I enjoyed having roommates over the years to share my daily life with. And I am a shy introvert! So I think it’s mostly about finding someone that fits your vibe. Ideally close to your age and who has a similar lifestyle (like another grad student for example or a young professional). It would allow you to keep your space and have your own bathroom while also having a separate living room and kitchen, and to enjoy meal together once in a while. If I remember correctly the rooms are separated by the living space so that’s ideal to having your bubble in the evenings and at night. Anyway! I think you’d feel less crammed than in a studio, but a studio is a great option too. 😊

      I think what scares me about getting a room mate is defo the fear of the unknown. Like you said it has to be someone I vibe with, how will I know if we will vibe just from meeting them a few times or even once? Living with someone else would be a huge move for me. I think I would be more comfortable downsizing. That is not to shut your idea down, I think it 100% is a great idea if you can trust that you will vibe with the person xx

    Vee, since you are just one person living alone and you do not use the other two rooms. I would suggest that a Studio apartment would be best. Vee, you do not have to do it. It was just a suggestion.

    This apt is not your forever place. And, since you do travel a lot and spend more time on campus studying, a studio apartment sounds more realistic. Plus, you'd save loads of money! You😅 go through the moving and downsizing now so that when you are close to completing you will have far less stress and will have more time to focus on competing your dissertation. When it's time for you to move once you've graduated, it will be much easier to pick up and go. 😊

      That is a great point! Saving money is always a positive. I will definitely consider downsizing as it makes sense x

    Hey Vee! I think you should stay in the 2 bedroom. That’s a tough situation, and it seems like you’re learning toward the studio… but as a PhD student having the extra space will be nice. And you kept mentioning cooking and knowing your bed is close to you. I think after awhile that’ll get old (me personally). Make that second bedroom your own personal library! I’m 25, turning 26 this fall and I loved I got a 2 bedroom. Yes I’m married and live with my husband, but we turned that extra bedroom into my own office because we almost got a one bedroom and I have no regrets! I’m getting my master’s and I too spend a lot of time on campus and at my apartment complex’s study rooms, but it’s so nice knowing I have the extra space if I need it, like if I’m sick and need to stay home etc, and still be separate from my bedroom, kitchen, etc because i do believe you need to have separate spaces when studying and relaxing. You mentioned money, but it sounds like that’s not the issue. You can afford your place and you work hard enough to stay there. I say stay in the two bedroom! I think in the longevity of things, and in your late 20s, 2 bedroom is the answer! You’ll make the right choice that comes to you though, regardless of what we all say : )

      Heyyy bestie, I really appreciate your perspective, especially since you're also a student. The idea of turning the second bedroom into a personal library sounds amazing! I do love the extra space and the separation it provides for different activities. Your experience with having an office space is super helpful. It's definitely something to think about for the long term. I'll definitely consider all these points before making a final decision. Thanks again for your advice! 😊

    Sometimes subletting is a good option for the summer if that’s allowed where you stay. If you can find someone clean/trustworthy and it might give you time to wait until after summer/when you’re back to get a 1 bedroom. Personally I wasn’t a big fan of living in a studio but also it might be different if you’re single and there’s lots of sunlight.

      It really is! I know this is something that is very popular in the UK and I agree I think it would be an ideal option for me if I could find someone that I can trust to look after the place while I am away xx

    The low expectation for the ginger to shock you was so funny. Anyways my two-sense: are you able to rent out the second bedroom or will that invade your privacy in a way that will affect your productivity?

      Lool I wasn't expecting it!! and hmm I hadn't thought of this side of things! I think I would prefer having my own space so a studio might be the best option x

    Definitely move to a one bedroom! Or even studio - there are spacious studios. It’ll help you feel more cozy and also save! BUT ALSO for the summer: SUBLET SUBLET SUBLET. No need to waste 6k+ I’ve been a student in the US for 7 years, and the trick is subletting in the summer. Post your apartment online (uni Facebook groups/grad housing groups) and you can have the rent paid for while you’re traveling.

    The rent is a bit expensive in my opinion, as a 2 bedroom is generally split between 2 people. So you should definitely go for a 1 bedroom but WAIT until one become available. Although you could also rent out your apartment to someone else while you are away. You are definitely wasting your money - and I did expect more people to visit you and stay in the extra bedroom. It's a tricky situation

      Its is very expensive indeed hence why I am thinking to downsize. Fingers crossed a 1 bed becomes available soon, that would be a dream. And ahhh its because all my friends and family are based in the UK and due to distance and other commitments it has been difficult for them to visit.

    Hi Vee, I watched your videos for sometime but never commented until now. I personally recommend you staying in the two bedroom apartment. The reasons being: 1) Doing a PhD is very stressful. On top of that you are also working on other parts of your business at the same time. It’s worthwhile to come back to a place that’s spacious and homely. In a studio, you would be confined to a limited space and it would make you turn away from “home” to spend time in the library/outside in general 2) Cost is a big factor to you as you mentioned in the video. But you work very hard to put yourself in the financial position to be able to afford the apartment in the first place. Your career and earning potential will only increase as you progress through life, so it could be worth spending more now to have a nice place to live especially if you’re financially capable of doing so. 3) it’s also only for one more year so you should enjoy yourself in California with a homely place before moving back to the UK.

      Heyyy bestie!! Thank you for looking at it this way! I hadn’t fully considered how the extra space might help reduce stress and make it feel more like home, especially during my PhD journey. And you’re right, investing in a comfortable place now could be worth it. It’s a tough decision, but your perspective is super helpful. P.S thanks for the support and for watching my videos! 💖
